It's a Beige Beige World

It’s the time of year when paint companies start rolling out their palettes and top colors for the new year. I showcased Sherwin-Williams’ 2021 palette a few weeks ago, and now other paint companies are following. And let’s just say that 2021 is looking kind of … beige. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing; I actually like the move away from grays and into a warmer and earthier tone. I’m just surprised at the number of companies that are on board with this color.

All of the companies who have announced their colors and palettes have also focused on some form of wellness, a direct answer to what’s happening in our world today. PPG’s 2021 top colors include Transcend, a warm beige that the company describes as the “feeling of a warm latte on a cool morning, or warm sand on a sunny summer day.”

Behr’s 2021 color predictions have an array of beige tones, described as Casual Comfort or colors “designed to elevate your comfort zone.”

Dulux’s color of the year is called Brave Ground, a “reassuring and elemental beige.” Like the other companies, Dulux says it was inspired by the need for comfort, wellness, and an “alignment with the planet.”

I love using these warm tones in my projects already - especially for mountain or coastal homes. I’m thrilled to see them coming to the fore instead of the grays that have dominated palettes for so long.
