Why I Love These 3 Classic Chair Styles

Selecting upholstery can be a very personal process. What is comfortable to you may not be comfortable for someone else. Some prefer a tightly upholstered seat, and others want to sink into a more poufy cloud. Then there’s the idea of pitch - how deep the seat is and how far it tilts. It can be an overwhelming process to select something that works for you and for your decor. I have three classic chair styles that I go to again and again because they are always comfortable and they look fantastic in almost any decor style. Let’s take a look!

Wing Chair

Also known as a wingback chair, these were originally designed to keep drafts off of the person seated in them. Today, they offer a tall-backed comfort, perfect for people who prefer a good support on their back. You can find more sleek and modern versions, like the one above, or the super-traditional design with more pronounced wings like you see below. Either way, these chairs are a perfect perch in a living room or den.

Barrel Chair

You can see exactly how these chairs got their name just by the shape. These chairs are extremely comfortable, providing good support for most everyone. They’re particularly comfortable for people who are shorter or who have short legs. I also like to select swivel barrel chairs that allow you to turn toward a conversation or to the television.

Modern Arm Chair

This type of arm chair has an open frame, which makes them great in a space where you want to create a feeling of air and openness. The pitch, or tilt of the seat, is really comfy. I always ensure that this type of chair has upholstered and padded arms, for an extra cozy feeling.
