Pivoting to a New Front Door

One of the most beautiful things about my Cherry Hills project is the front door! It makes an amazing impression right away for my clients’ guests and family. This was an entirely custom door, fabricated by the incredible Flair Builders. Here’s the process we went through for the design!

The owners wanted a contemporary home that did not feel too modern or cold that would showcase their love of travel and the art they have collected over the years. So we knew we needed an artistic front door that would set the tone.

We started with installing the steel frame. This is a pivot door, which allows for wider and taller custom designs. We designed it to have wood and glass inserts, too.

In the image above, you can see how we filled the space on the bottom of the door while waiting for the wood insert. And you can see how the pivot works. Unlike traditional hinges, pivot mechanisms can support bigger doors made from heavy materials like steel and solid wood.

We wrapped the handle of the door because the fabricator polished the steel to a high sheen and we wanted to protect that. One great thing about a pivot door is that they are easy and smooth to open and close, so this gorgeous handle will be both functional and beautiful.

Pivot doors also can open in both directions and can be opened simply by walking through them, which is great when your hands are full.

To complement the high polish on the door’s handle, we designed stainless inserts for the closet doors on either side of the front entrance.

Here you can see the finished front door - isn’t it gorgeous? And it perfectly complements the architecture of this Houston new build.
