My Favorite Things: Go-To Cabinet Styles

Every designer plays favorites - often with things that we just know will work in almost any home. Once you find something that’s fab and functional, it becomes your go-to. That’s how I feel about 2 styles of cabinets. It isn’t that they look exactly the same in each project - but when you give it a closer examination you can see they have “good bones.” So let’s take a look at what I love!

Shaker Style

Shaker style cabinets, particularly with inset panels, are timeless. They’re sleek and classic, and are great in any decor, including traditional, transitional, modern, and more. And that is exactly why I love them! They look fantastic in any kitchen or bathroom I’ve designed!

And look at how different this type of cabinet can appear with a bolder paint color and fabulous hardware. It truly is a chameleon and can change its look to suit any style.

In the laundry room cabinetry above, those fabulous Shaker panels also work with any size of door or drawer. They are the star of the show in this space.

Add a neutral color and matte-finished hardware, and Shaker cabinets create a serene space. I added a few glass-fronted doors to open up the room, too.

Reeded Cabinetry

My second-favorite cabinetry style is a more custom and formal look. You can see a bit of this gorgeous style in the bathroom I designed above. This style can take a lot of linear feet of “reed” or “bead” to create the look.

In fact, I love this style so much that I’m having my own master bathroom cabinets created with this gorgeous look. You can see them in progress above!
