5 Tips for a Cozier Bedroom

Only a few days until September begins, which means fall isn’t far behind. I’m ready for cooler nights and crisp days, aren’t you? I love cozy rooms for fall and winter, especially a primary bedroom. I always design that space to be a retreat for my clients, a place to wind down and recharge. Here are my 5 tips for creating a cozier bedroom!

1. Soft Color Palette

Color can impact your mood and your stress levels. So choose a soft color palette to create a cozy and quiet feeling. Be sure it’s a color that you love, too, one that soothes you. That could be soft greys, pastel blues or greens, or lovely sand tones.

2. Light Layers

You want to create pools of soft light in a primary room. That creates the perfect cozy feeling. I like to use bedside lamps, a floor lamp, and overhead lights on a dimmer switch. That gives you a lot of choices for controlling the light.

3. Extra Cover

Doubling up on bed covers, with a duvet folded at the end of the bed, creates a visual coziness that can’t be beat. The loft of a duvet just invites you to snuggle in. You can also include a soft throw as an extra layer of comfort in the room.

4. Reading Nooks

When there is space, always include a cozy chair or a chaise to allow for reading and relaxation. Having that extra lounge area is a great way to make your primary bedroom an oasis.

5. Textural Types

It’s critical to offer a lot of textures that are cozy and meant to soothe. Perfect selections include velvets, chenilles, faux furs, jerseys, and other fabrics that give you that very soft hand.
