4 Tips for Setting Up a Home Bar

I love to entertain friends and family in our home; it’s fun to host a soiree with our nearest and dearest. Home entertaining has also grown in popularity across the country, thanks to the pandemic, so having a home bar is one of the top requests for my clients. You can create one in your home that’s chic and set up for how you like to entertain. Here are 4 tips for your perfect home bar!

1. Design a Built-In Space

Creating a home bar that gives you everything you need is of course the perfect scenario. I’ve created built-in bars in new homes and in kitchen renovations. In my University project above, we reworked a very small office and created a fabulous wine bar that’s sophisticated and functional. Because my clients are wine aficionados, it was important that they have appropriate wine storage, plus cabinets for all of the different wine glasses. Keep in mind what type of bar you need when you begin to create your bar - each type of alcohol needs the right temperature and storage units.

2. Take Over Another Space

In many kitchens today, there’s extra storage and space, sometimes in a corner or extra wall. Consider using any counter space as a home bar! For the side wall in the kitchen I designed above, I transformed unwanted cabinets into a home bar. The counter makes a perfect place to showcase bottles and glasses, and the cabinets let my clients store glassware, tools, and bar accessories.

3. Try a Bar Cart

I absolutely love a bar cart - they are fun and functional! You can purchase a bar cart from many retailers, or you can rework a gorgeous antique. These carts can be rolled in and out of rooms or even outdoor spaces like the one above. Showcase your favorite glassware, wines, punch, and more!

4. Sink Up

Don’t forget about functionality as you’re setting up your home bar. Having a small bar sink helps with cocktail creation and clean-up. Consider also adding a small disposal for rinds and condiments.
