The Shapely Style of Mirrors

One of my favorite parts of being an interior designer is to find or fashion the perfect piece for each square inch of my client’s home. I search unique dealers, antique stores, and shop with artisans all over the world to get the right object for every room, and that includes mirrors. Mirrors bounce light and provide a functional place for reflection. Whether they are in a bathroom, a dining room, a living room, or a bedroom, I like to bring in vintage mirrors or create custom pieces for my clients. Especially when they are anything but a boring square. Here are some shapely mirrors I’ve used recently!

Clipped Corners

Taking a unique twist on the usual square or rectangular shape, I found this fantastic mirror that has clipped corners. The shapely turn complements the curve on the marble backsplash and adds a lot of visual interest.

Shields Up

For a London flat I designed, I was able to find several vintage mirrors that were so unique. This large shield design makes a statement, and I loved how the piece narrowed towards the bottom.

Mixed Materials

This is probably one of my favorite mirrors that I’ve found. For that same London flat, I spied this wood and glass piece in an antique store and it stopped me in my tracks. I love the sculptural shape that makes it almost as much art as it is mirror.

Hitting the Spot

In every home, there is that one place that requires something special, like an unusual size or shape. In that case, only custom or vintage will do! Like in the bathroom above, it can sometimes take a while to find that perfect fit.

Custom Creation

I love playing with shapes, like in the powder room above. I had geometric forms hand painted on the wall and I wanted a mirror that would be a perfect complement to that theme. The narrow oval shape I designed balances the patterns without competing with them.

What do you think of these fun shapes? Let me know in the comments below!

Warmly,
