Creative people often talk about “filling up” our creative wells. When we spend so much time designing and crafting exciting and unique interiors, it can really deplete those wells. So when I need inspiration, one of the first places I go is to an art gallery or museum. Whether it’s a color palette, specific shapes, or a certain style genre, art can translate directly into the homes I design!

I’m lucky to live in a city with an incredible museum - the Museum of Fine Art Houston. But when I travel, I like to add museums to my itinerary, like the Tate Britain in London.

I’m most drawn to modern art, like the beautiful David Hockney above. The colors in that painting are a perfect palette for an interior. And the midcentury modern style of the art is also inspiring to me!

So many of my clients have their own art collections, so it’s also great to see how galleries and museums display the art. Although I doubt any of my clients would have a piece as large as the one in the Tate Britain above!

I’ve built niches in homes specifically for a client’s sculpture, so seeing incredible works like the one above makes me think about a custom solution for displaying pieces like that in a home.

I also love to help my clients curate new art for their homes, so I search through galleries in every city I visit. On a recent trip to Costa Rica, I found the amazing Paul Bond Studio in Ojochal, full of incredible art like the piece above.
