My Favorite Things: Sensational Ceilings

I love a house that has “good bones,” especially when it comes to the ceiling. Too often you can see those terrible popcorn ceilings, or strange tiles, or just a blank open canvas. You know you’re in a special house when the ceilings get as much attention as other architectural details. I definitely have my favorites when it comes to ceiling styles - let’s take a look!

Tray Ceiling

A tray ceiling has an inset section (or a few sections!) that adds dimension and depth to the ceiling. I love how high the tray ceiling is in my University project above, and how gorgeous is that molding!? But you can also have a round tray ceiling, as you can see below in my Shepherd project.

Vaulted Ceiling

A vaulted ceiling gives a feeling of space and air - so it’s perfect for a beach house, like the one I designed above. But there are other styles of vaulted ceilings, too, like the groin vaults that look almost Gothic in my project below.

Beamed Ceilings

Beamed ceilings can have gorgeous structural beams that are either part of a vaulted ceiling (like in my Telluride project above), or are exposed on a flat ceiling (like in my project below). Either way, they are gorgeous!

Wallpapered Ceiling

If you DO have a boring flat ceiling, there is a guaranteed way to zhush it up, and that’s with wallpaper! You can see an example below from my Piping Rock project. I can’t wait to show you the finished room soon!
