My Best Before-and-After Transformations
I’ve had so many remodel and renovation projects over my long interior design career. And I have to admit I have a few favorites, mostly because the transformation was just so good compared to where we began. One of the best parts of my job is to see that dream home become a reality for my clients! Let’s take a look of a few of the before-and-after looks that I love.
A Sophisticated Living Room
BEFORE: The living room was dated and dark
AFTER: Lighter, chic, and definitely brighter
This transformation in Houston’s University Park neighborhood was for a young family. They wanted the spaces to be more modern, but still classic. They had young children so it was important that everything was able to stand up to wear-and-tear, like performance fabrics and treated rugs. We kept the stunning vintage chandelier, but gave the room a better palette for all the gorgeous natural light.
A NEW KITCHEN LAYOUT
BEFORE: This kitchen needed a more modern update
AFTER: A reworked floorplan helped open up the space
Kitchens have a shelf life if you don’t go with classic design. This Houston home had a very ‘80s space that was not aging well. And the floorplan was choppy and inefficient. We opened it all up and gave it a lighter, more neutral palette that will stand the test of time. Most importantly, this kitchen is also now more functional with a workable layout.
An Open Staircase
BEFORE: Opening up the stairs was the key to a more modern look
AFTER: A chic staircase opens up the entire space
After a major flood in this Houston home, I had the opportunity to rethink everything. The stairs originally were enclosed and ended right at the front door. It made the house feel too cramped and dated. So we recreated the stairs in an open design that modernized the entire home.
A CHIC LONDON FLAT
BEFORE: Refacing the fireplace
AFTER: A beautiful mix of modern and antiques
I’m lucky enough to work with clients around the country and around the world. I’ve completed projects everywhere from Costa Rica to London. This flat in Kensington was one of my favorites. It was in terrible shape and needed a lot of work. To get to the stunning finished room you see above, we first had to redo all of the floors, strip the walls, and reface that fireplace. And we shopped several antique markets to get the perfect mix of modern and vintage.

Warmly,
