Color Trends: Moody Hues

The color trend forecasts always begin with paint companies announcing their top selections for the upcoming year. Behr is first out of the gate for 2026 with a gorgeous green called Hidden Gem. It’s a deep and moody color, which is right on target for what I’m seeing as the future for color in the home. My clients are loving palettes that range from black to navy to green to brown. Let’s take a look at my favorite Moody Hues.

Deep Green

Whether it’s the blue-green of Hidden Gem or a more emerald shade like you see in the home office I designed above, bold greens are definitely growing in popularity. Green is always listed near the very top of people’s favorite colors, and it can not only represent calm and rejuvenation, but offers a luxe and sophisticated look.

Slate

Drenching a room in deep color actually offers a cozy feeling, like in the home office I created above. Not only that, but moodier shades like this also help sharpen focus and productivity, keeping your attention on your work.

Black

Black is a chic choice for any room in the home, but in the kitchen I designed above, it really makes a statement. Black can be a utilitarian color because it hides a lot of stains and marks, and it creates a feeling of elegance with its fashion-forward look.

Brown

Deep chocolate colors offer a nod to nature while also creating a warmth and beauty. I drenched the walls of a powder room above with dark brown, highlighting the walls with handpainted gold gingko leaves. It created one of my most popular images on social media because it’s striking and sophisticated.
