Breakfast (Rooms) of Champions

Whether you call the space a breakfast room or a breakfast nook, these eat-in kitchen areas are snug dining spaces that I love. While a formal dining room is great for entertaining, I really appreciate the more quiet moments you can have with family in a breakfast room. So how do you create those warm and inviting spaces? Here are my best pro tips!

1. Round Tables

In most breakfast areas, I love to use a round table. There are several benefits to this shape. First, everyone at the table can see each other so it’s great for conversation. And in most cases you can always fit another chair in as needed. Round tables are also a great shape for a small space like a breakfast nook!

2. Comfy Chairs

An upholstered seat (or at least a seat cushion) will help people linger over their coffee in the morning, or continue a great conversation during an informal dinner. So be sure your chairs are as comfortable as possible!

3. Let in the Light

A breakfast nook is a great space for lots of windows and light. Think of those morning meals with the sun streaming in! And for evening hours, be sure to select a great statement light fixture that can be centered right over the table. Many of my clients use breakfast rooms for homework, crafts, and other tasks, too, so let in that light!

4. Material Management

A breakfast room gets FAR more use in a home than a formal dining room, so select your furnishings carefully! Most importantly, be sure to use performance fabrics to avoid stains and messes on your chairs and draperies.

Use these ideas to create the most welcoming breakfast nook in your home! Bon appetit!

Warmly,

Beth
