I would rather visit a home that has personality than one that looks like it’s a spec home for a builder - wouldn’t you?? You want to feel welcome, you want to feel comfortable, and you want to see what the people in that home love and collect. Adding personality to your home sets your house apart from all the others in your neighborhood. It gives your guests insight into who you are. It creates a haven that supports your lifestyle. And it lets you showcase what you love. Here are 4 ways to put that personal touch into your home!

1. Original Art

This is one of my favorite ways to create that individual look for my clients. Sometimes they have their own art collections, and on some projects my clients ask me to curate art for them. In either case, we always select the art based on what my clients really love. That way it will showcase who they are, the colors that are faves, and give people an insight into my clients’ style. Always invest in art that’s original, rather than a print or piece that dozens of other homes probably have, too.

2. Custom Design

You’re going to sense a theme here - it’s so much better if you can showcase items in your home that no one else has! Custom design is a great way to do that. You can customize a sofa so it’s perfect for your family, you can buy a custom furniture piece that really speaks to you, and you can customize the fixed items in your home, too, like the cabinetry above. I designed the cabinets so they would have a 3D effect, which adds so much more visual interest in this kitchen!

3. Showcase Things You Love

Another great way to highlight who you are is to bring in items and collections that are uniquely YOU. It could be a collection of sea glass, the books you display, or even a fab wooden surfboard! Put your personality on display and create those amazing moments in your home that will spark conversations.

4. Use Wallpaper

Wallpaper is another fantastic way to show color and pattern - that really makes a room pop! There are so many incredible wallcovering designs available today, from traditional to contemporary to whimsical. Look for a wallpaper that lights up the room and makes you happy every time you walk through the door.
