4 Tips for Cozy Fall Rooms

Well it doesn’t feel like fall here in Houston, but I do know that cooler weather is on its way. And for those of you lucky enough to already have crisper evenings and a break from summer’s heat, it’s time to think about cozy spaces for cooler days. You don’t have to redecorate your house to make that switch - you can bring in a few key pieces that will add that warmth and fall feeling that you’re looking for. Let’s take a look!

1. Warm Light

The light from a fireplace always adds a warmth to a fall room, right? So even if you don’t have a fireplace, think about that warm light and how you can introduce it to a room. You might want to bring in large candles, or use warmer lightbulbs for your fixtures and lamps. Or you could install dimmers on your lighting so you can adjust those lights down and create a softer look.

2. Darker Paint Colors

Don’t be afraid of deep and dark colors, like the intense navy I used in the home office above. That room is incredibly cozy because of that enveloping color. It creates a sheltered feeling that’s perfect for those crisp fall days.

3. Soft Textures

There’s a reason that we select flannel and warm knits for our winter PJs - they just feel cozy! Consider that idea when you bring textures into a room. Think about velvets, chunky knits, boucles, and soft fabrics. You can use them for pillows, upholstery, rugs, and more. Even the table above has a soft texture to it.

4. Cover Up

And of course the best way to create a warm and inviting room is to offer lots of throw and blankets. That works for bedrooms, living rooms, dens, and more! They’re great for cuddling up in while you watch The Great British Baking Show, or even for just an impromptu snooze on an autumn afternoon.

Use these ideas to get cozy for those fall and winter days. Hopefully we’ll see them soon in hot Houston!

Warmly,

Beth
