3 Ways to Select the Perfect Bathroom Hardware

Too often people think that design is all about aesthetics. Of course we want to create beautiful rooms! But they need to function well, too. And if they don’t, you really notice it. That’s so true of cabinet hardware. If it doesn’t work well when you open a cabinet or drawer, you will be frustrated every single time you try it. So here are my best tips for getting hardware that looks great and works perfectly!

1. Style

The first thing I consider with hardware is the style of the room. Is it modern, traditional, or somewhere in between? The hardware is like the jewelry in the space, so you want it to match the rest of the room’s fashion. In the sleek bathroom above, I selected a more oversized pull that fits flat to the drawer. It feel great in the hand and it looks fantastic.

2. Ergonomics

This is the part that most people forget and it’s where having the expertise of a designer can really help! For the most part, we tend to use small pulls on small drawers, and larger handles on longer drawers and doors. But I always ask my clients about who will most use the cabinetry and if they have any issues with their hands. Those small knobs can be an issue if you’re older or if the doors are too close together. Pulls are easier for almost everyone to use, so really think about what would work best for you and your family members.

3. The Bling

I already said that the hardware is the jewelry of the room, so sometimes you have to bring the bling! There are so many unique and exciting pulls and knobs out there, so think about what would add that extra zing to your room’s design. In the powder room I designed above, I wanted to complement the hammered metal sink as well as the glam style. So I found incredibly gorgeous pulls that took everything up a notch.

Use these ideas to select the perfect hardware for your home!

Warmly,
