2022's Comforting Color Trends

The first forecast for color trends in 2022 just arrived from paint company Farrow & Ball. Joa Studholme, Farrow & Ball’s color curator, sees a palette that’s inspired by folk and craft with colors that are comfortable and familiar. It’s almost a vintage palette, but with more complex hues. Let’s take a look!

The 2022 color palette is anchored by pink, blue, and green, colors that are known to comfort people and make them feel nostalgic. That isn’t surprising in a time of flux, anxiety, and upheaval. These colors have a greyed effect to them, making them more complex than just a simple tone.

I love the green, in particular, and I’ve used a similar color in my projects. It definitely has a vintage appeal, giving the look of craftsmanship as well as an organic and natural style. It’s why I used the color in the kitchen of my Telluride project where it fit the design of the home - and the exterior location - perfectly.

A blue with a lot of grey in it is such a complex and gorgeous color. I’m using this a lot in upcoming projects, and my clients definitely respond to the comforting depth of this blue. It works well in any room, and fits into any style of architecture as well.

The white that Farrow & Ball chose is not a stark white, but leans more to a cream, which gives it an antiqued look. It’s a great white for historic homes, modern farmhouses, midcentury modern rooms, and more.

So far I’ve only used the yellow and pink hues in accessories, but I am eyeing a pink powder room that I think will really hit the perfect note for the 2022 forecast.
