Not-So-Mellow Yellow

There is a new color trend in yellow on the horizon. It isn’t a sunshine or lemon yellow, but a deeper, richer yellow. Think aged, burnished brass. Back in the day, we called it mustard yellow, but I recently saw it referred to as turmeric, which I like sound of. So much more exotic!

It’s a surprisingly versatile tone, so it plays well with others. On the color wheel, blue is complement of yellow, so isn’t surprising that turmeric looks great with teal.

I love that the chairs and the aged brass sconces have the same burnished glow in this dark and moody room.

I don’t know if I would have thought to pair tumeric yellow with pink, but Annie Sloan Paints did, and it’s fabulous. Right on trend.

It also pairs well with the warm wood tones so poplar in interiors these days. Golden yellow meets golden brown.
