Haunted Hues: Orange

It’s that time of year again, when everyhing is about the ever so spooky combo of orange and black, but you know what? Now that my kids are older, I’m not so big on Halloween decor. Don’t get me wrong, I love Halloween as much as the next person but just don’t feel the need to turn my home into the haunted mansion every year. But... I’m absolutely mad for the color orange, so instead I thought I’d pay tribute to beautiful rooms where orange plays a central role.

I’m going to start with one of my favorites, an orange sitting room in the Greenbriar Hotel. Carlton Varney chose this happy hue for his update of Dorothy Draper’s classic decor as it’s cheerful in the day and flattering at night!

These impossibly long orange curtains for the 2013 Holiday House are just so gorgeous. How much do they make this room sing?

When I was little, I imagined that the kitchens of the future would look something like this, and voila! Kitchens really do! But it wouldn’t be half as futuristic and fun without that orange accent wall!

Jonathan Adler and Simon Doonan used orange in abundance to turn their bathroom into a happy place. Who could start a day cranky after getting ready in this room?

A designer favorite is to lacquer the walls of an entry orange, as if to say “Welcome, we’ve got good things in store for you inside!

Then someontimes, you just need to go for it and crank the color volume to 10 like this vibrant orange on orange media room. It’s like living inside an Hermès box!
