Once upon a time, it was considered gauche to use different metal finishes in the same room... even in the same house! If your faucet was chrome, so were your cabinet pulls, and your light fixture, and on and on. But thankfully, like many old rules, standards have relaxed and now decor is better and more interesting than ever. As far as metals, it’s anything goes. If you like it, it works! Here are some examples of the new trend.
Brushed brass is the accent metal for this custom vanity, but look above - blackened steel is the metal in the sconces and the combination looks great!
A nickel pot filler above a stove with aged brass accents? Why not?
Deep matte bronze faucet with a shiny copper sink? Yes, please!
All the metals are used in this photo - oil-rubbed bronze pendants illuminate a weathered brass shelving unit complemented by vintage chrome stemware. Eclecticism done right!
Copper on the wall, and hanging above as a pendant, elevates the fairly pedestrian chrome and wood dining set into something special.
How do you feel about the mixed metal trend? Are you embracing it, or do you prefer the simplicity of a matched set? As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments. And for more mixing metals inspiration, please visit my All That Glitters Pinterest Board.
