Going to the Matte
For years we’ve had a love affair with high-gloss lacquer finishes for the home, but now matte finishes are coming to the home in a big way. Wood is used with a natural, non-gloss, oiled finish. Marble is back, but this time around it’s not polished, instead honed.
This beautiful photo was actually my inspiration for this post - the matte stoneware bowls and plates and weathered wood cutting board just spoke to me about the new matte looks for the home. And matte black is the hottest look of them all!
I love that this chic fireplace is covered in matte-glazed bricks. Had the tiles been shiny, it wouldn’t be nearly as sculptural and powerful.
This Hamptons home is a symphony of matte textures. The marble mantel is clearly modern, but with a flat honed-finish. Even the cabinets are painted without a sheen.
Matte finished plaster walls turn this minimalist powder room into a temple-like sanctuary. No further decoration needed.
What do you think about the new matte? Or do you prefer a little shiny bling in a room?
