4 Tips for Getting Cozy at Home
Fall is finally in the air, and I couldn’t be happier about it. I’m not much for Pumpkin Spice lattes, but cozy, fall-inspired, seasonal decor? Well, that has my name all over it! So how does one layer in cozy to an existing decor? It’s easier than you think. Here are four quick tips:
1. Throws. Layer throws everywhere. On beds, chairs, sofas, and in every room. Except the bathroom, and even then, nothing wrong with a big fluffy bath sheet folded over the edge of a tub!
2. Books. I have a fantasy in which I design a book collector’s home, and every room is a library. Nothing is cozier than a good library! But it doesn’t need to be a whole room of books. A stack here and there works, too (see above). Nothing makes me want to curl up with a book and a cup of hot tea, than a crisp, cool fall evening.
3. Baskets. Baskets are super textural, and instantly add warmth to any space. Use them liberally throughout your home to bring the season inside. Fill them with firewood, or magazines, or even other baskets. Anything, really. You are probably wondering why I’m using a closet as an illustration for cozy, but it proves my point quite well. The photo below was styled only for the camera, and I needed to make a stark white, empty room feel lived in. So I filled the shelves with baskets. Voila! Instantly cozy!
4. Pillows. Pillows are the easiest home accessory to seasonally switch out. It wouldn’t be the smartest idea to switch out a sofa every season, but you can add different pillows to it in the fall! You’d be surprised at how they can change the direction of a room. Again, like with baskets, think texture. Wool, velvet, or chunky knits really bring on the cozy. In the below photo, the stylist took the room from summer fresh to autumn snuggly with the addition of one dark blue wool tartan pillow and one chunky cable-knit throw (the books and basket didn’t hurt either).
How about you? Are you as excited for fall as I am? Or are you still in endless summer mode? Let me know!
