Counter-Mounted vs Wall-Mounted Faucets

Selecting everything for your bathroom project can be overwhelming - your designer and contractor are going to ask you a lot of questions! And sometimes it can be hard to know how to answer or what to choose. One question I’m asked a lot is the difference between a wall-mounted faucet or a counter-mounted (also known as deck-mounted) version. They both look amazing, but there are some pros and cons that will help you choose. Let’s take a look!

plumbing decisions

If you’re doing a major bathroom renovation, you will have to consider how the water lines run to your sink. If they are already in place and you want a wall-mounted faucet, you’ll need to move those lines. This isn’t a make-or-break decision, but you do have to consider the extra time and work involved. Ask your contractor or plumber if the lines can accommodate whichever faucet you choose.

LOOKING GOOD

A wall-mounted faucet is so pretty. It’s unique and gives you a very different look for your bathroom. But that doesn’t mean a counter-mounted faucet is boring. There are so many lovely selections that can elevate the look of a bathroom, including finishes that are more than just chrome or brass.

CONSIDER THE SPACE

I do suggest wall-mounted faucets to clients for powder rooms or bathrooms where space is at a premium. Mounting the fixtures on the wall clears the counter for toiletries and other items. Or you can use slimmer fixtures if you still prefer deck-mounted hardware. If your space issue is vertical and you’re having trouble finding a mirror that will fit top to bottom, you may want to consider a standard faucet.

KEEP IT CLEAN

If you’re a neat freak, you may prefer a wall-mounted look. Having the faucet up and away from the splashing water helps keep them cleaner. And there is usually a taller backsplash with a wall-mounted look, so that also keeps the water from hitting your painted or wallpapered walls. For people who like to keep things clean, I like to consider taller faucets if they want to use a counter mounted version. Those are easier to wipe around.
