Behind the Scenes: The Masterbath

It’s been 14 months since Hurricane Harvey devastated Houston, and in many ways it’s been a long, slow slog to get back to “normal” - and in other ways it seems like the time has flown by. As I’ve said before, I am so grateful that my family and I have had somewhere else to go while we wait to rebuild, and that we have an amazing renovation team helping us. Today I’m going to give you another peek at the project, particularly the master bath.

While I loved the old iteration of my bath, I’m hoping this will be my last personal bathroom renovation, so I really want to build the room of my dreams. Since this is a shared space with my fabulous husband, I’m keeping the finishes warm and sleek, a perfect balance of masculine and feminine, modern and traditional. One feature I was insistent on including in my renovation was a freestanding tub, with a tub filler with all the bells and whistles. I can’t wait until I am again the queen of my castle, soaking in it for hours!

Back Wall of Shower and Counter tops: CALACATA MACCHIA VECCHIA; Shower Floor Tile: Walker Zanger Stone Mosaic PIETRA BELLO Penny Round; Wood Cabinets to have reeded detail; Lighting: Circa, Penelope sconce.

I’m also ridiculously excited by the idea of a tankless toilet because it’s so sleek and modern. And I also included dual undermount sinks. Vessel sinks can look cool and sculptural, but in terms of upkeep and cleanliness, nothing beats a good old undermount fireclay sink.

Tub: Wetstyle “Cloud”; Toilet and Sink, Duravit STARCK; Watermark, “York”.

Keep in mind I’m still in the planning and demo stages of construction, so none of these selections are quite set in stone yet. I’m pleased with the direction we’re heading, but as always, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Also, many are still struggling here in Harvey’s aftermath, so please consider donating this holiday season to Habitat for Humanity - they are here assisting in the rebuilding, and they will be for a while.

Warmly,

Beth
