4 Decor Trends for 2023

This is the time of year for predictions and trend forecasts, and I love looking ahead to see what’s coming next! There are certain lifestyle changes that will impact how we live at home - just look at how Covid made us rethink our rooms. And there are new ideas that offer a fun twist on how we live. Here are the design trends that I think will be tops in 2023!

Nature-Based Design

Biophilic design is the idea that you should be at one with nature, that you invite it into your home. There are all sorts of health benefits associated with that, like lowered blood pressure and less stress. You can bring plants into your room’s design, create spaces that showcase nature right outside the door, or both! But think about how you can create more green spaces in your home.

Multipurpose Rooms

This is definitely a holdover from Covid, when we were all locked down at home together. But then we saw the sense in making the most of every single square inch in our homes, even in homes boasting thousands of square feet. In the beach home I designed above, a modern Murphy bed adds extra space for guests in a home office.

Personal Oases

If you feel like you’re in a constant state of alert today, you’re not alone. Many psychologists see this era as one of collective trauma, so we all need to soothe our souls whenever we can. That’s why rooms that offer sanctuary are going to be more important than ever next year! It could be a cozy reading nook, a spa bathroom, or a primary suite that offers everything you’d want in an oasis. So what would YOU want for your private escape?

Emphasis on Art

Yes, I realize the irony in what I’m about to say as part of a trends post. But people do want more personal spaces that are unique and different from what their neighbors have in their homes. And one of the best ways to express yourself is through original art. Paintings, sculpture, drawings, photography - select a medium that means something to you and then buy art that you love!

Bonus: Hidden Spaces

As part of that oases idea, I think we’ll see more hidden spaces in homes. I’ve been asked to design more hidden doors this year than ever, and I love the idea that it creates your own personal hideaway at home.

So what do you think about my predictions? Stay tuned to see which ones come true!

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
