Inspired by: Summer

I love summer: Lots of sunlight, a slower and more casual pace, soothing color palettes. As a designer, I love to recreate the mood and beauty of summer, bringing this wonderful season right into the home.

For example, lovely windows that let in natural light, giving you and your guests a place to bask in the warmth. Any well-lit space is deserving of a sitting area where you can enjoy the outdoors, inside.

Summertime, of course, brings to mind coastal style. Planked wood walls, beadboard, blue and white color schemes. It doesn’t have to be overtly ship-to-shore to still create that summer feeling.

And speaking of color schemes, summer is the perfect time to lighten up and redecorate your space in a fresh, clean palette — such as white and pale turquoise. I love the Tiffany feel of this kitchen:

Khaki and white is another summer favorite of mine. Natural accessories and materials make the room all the more clean and casual.

Furniture with drapey fabrics and lots of pillows for lounging are reminiscent of summertime respites. Together, they create a subdued mood that brings peace and calm to every inch and every corner.
