Inspired by Spring Color: Yellow

There’s an extra spring in my step these days. How about you? I find this time of year to be so energizing and full of creativity. In fact, it’s got me thinking about color, so this month I want to share a small color series that is perfect for spring.

We’ll start with yellow and then look at lavender, melon, and sky blue! But first, let’s take some inspiration from the PANTONE Fashion Color Report Spring 2016: A Transporting and Transformative Canvas.

According to Leatrice Eiseman Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, “colors this season transcend cultural and gender norms. Vivid brights give way to excitement and optimism, though quiet stability prevails in this season’s palette.”

Want to create a welcoming, vibrant space? Yellow is a good choice! Researchers say that yellow activates memory, stimulates the nervous system, promotes communication and sparks creativity — all benefits of a color that brings about a good mood and great ideas.

Used on exteriors, yellow invites feelings of happiness for all who enter!

A sun-kissed yellow brings a feeling of warmth. A more muted yellow coordinates with other others by serving as a soothing neutral. And pale yellow can transform a smaller room, giving it a larger feel.

My friend and designer Denise McGaha used bright yellow sparingly for the perfect amount of pop in the kitchen — especially among grays and silvers.

My Yellow Mellow pinboard will give you plenty of other ideas for working with the wide spectrum that yellow offers. What feel-good shade gives you the most inspiration for your home?
