Hallways are often the forgotten “room” in a house, but I find them fascinating. Those long expanses can often become art in their own way, either through architecture or decor.
The one I designed above has such beautiful arches and windows that it didn’t need much to highlight its beauty.
These great hallways from my Hall Monitor pinboard show that using the right paint color and light fixtures can create depth or lower the scale of a hall – just as you can in a room.
The best decorating advice for a hallway is to take the long view – stand at each end and check out the view. What do you like? What doesn’t work? Be sure that you look at the hall from both sides because the view can be very different depending on which end you’re looking from.
