As a little girl, I always wanted a canopy over my bed because nothing makes you feel more like a princess than a cascade of frothy fabric.
I still love canopies today. They not only make you feel like royalty, but they add a feeling of luxury, romance, and sophistication.
Some canopies are made fully functional, with long flowing draperies that literally shut out the world. Historically, of course, they were made to shut out the cold air in drafty castles and palaces. But you can also add the look of those drapes to a canopy without going to the effort, and expense, of having the bed fully enclosed.
Whether neutral or bold, with functioning drapes or not, canopies make the bedroom and bed an even better place to sleep. The luxurious fabrics and fanciful designs can create a regal space and a relaxing retreat.
Daybeds can also be framed by a lovely canopy, like in this room designed by Vicente Wolf, offering a dreamy getaway in a guest room or a salon.
